Using Music and Applied Behavior Analysis to Promote Skill Acquisition
Online PD

Music-mediated intervention (MMI) has recently been identified as an evidence-based practice for students with autism. Join this session to learn how music can serve as a motivator and reinforcer to promote participation and learning among students with autism and other developmental disabilities. Specific music-based activities and lessons that target skills addressed in commonly used behavior analytic curriculum guides for students with autism (e.g., VB-MAPP, Rethink Autism) will also be reviewed. Participants will learn more about: 1) how music affects the brain, 2) how music promotes learning and skill acquisition, and 3) how to use songs and musical activities to teach specific skills. Session materials are partially funded by federal and/or state grants.
